What is UEFN MCP Integration and What It Can Do

What is Unreal MCP?
Unreal MCP embeds a Model Context Protocol server directly inside your UEFN editor. Instead of just chatting with an AI assistant in a browser window and copying/pasting code, MCP allows agentic coding tools—like Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex—to connect locally to your project.
Once connected, your AI assistant can actually "see" your workspace and execute tasks directly inside the engine.
What Can the AI Agent Actually Do?
Because the agent is connected directly to your UEFN environment, it can handle multi-step development tasks. Here are the core capabilities available right now:
• Write and Iterate on Verse Code: You can tell your agent to "add a log message when the round starts, then compile and tell me if it built." The AI will write the code, run the compiler, and even troubleshoot build errors until it's green.
• Add and Edit Devices: Agents can browse the device catalog, place items in your level, and configure them. For example, if you say, "set off fireworks when someone crosses the finish line," the agent will place the VFX spawner and configure the trigger settings for you.
• Manage Scene Graph Entities: You can ask the AI to spawn an entity at the origin, attach a mesh component to it, and move it up 500 units. You can even ask it to inventory all existing entities in your level so you can get your bearings!
• Run Play Sessions: Your agent can launch a play session, push live Verse updates while the game is running, check the client log for bugs, and stop the session when you are done.
How to Get Started
The best part? There is no external plugin to download. Unreal MCP is already built into the engine.
To try it out, simply go into your UEFN project settings, enable the UEFN MCP toolset under beta access, and generate the configuration file to connect your AI coding tool of choice.
Since this feature is still in beta, expect a few rough edges—but the ability to have an AI wire up devices, write Verse scripts, and debug your client log all at once is a game-changer for Fortnite creators!
